Sepakat @ Common Ground with Pejabat ADUN Seri Setia would like to invite you to this kuliyyah by renowned Muslim Scholar Sheikh Abdul Hakim Murad @ Timothy Winters. He is based at Centre of Middle Eastern Studies at Cambridge University.

Sheikh Abdul Hakim Murad graduated from Cambridge University with a double-first in Arabic in 1983. He then lived in Cairo for three years, studying Islam under traditional teachers at Al-Azhar, one of the oldest universities in the world. He went on to reside for three years in Jeddah, where he administered a commercial translation office and maintained close contact with Habib Ahmad Mashhur al-Haddad and other ulama from Hadramaut, Yemen.

In 1989, Sheikh Abdul Hakim returned to England and spent two years at the University of London learning Turkish and Farsi. Since 1992 he has been a doctoral student at Oxford University, specializing in the religious life of the early Ottoman Empire. He is currently Secretary of the Muslim Academic Trust (London) and Director of the Sunna Project at the Centre of Middle Eastern Studies at Cambridge University, which issues the first-ever scholarly Arabic editions of the major Hadith collections.

Sheikh Abdul Hakim is the translator of a number of works, including two volumes from Imam al-Ghazali’s Ihya Ulum al-Din. He gives durus and halaqas from time to time and taught the works of Imam al-Ghazali at the Winter 1995 Deen Intensive Program in New Haven, CT. He appears frequently on BBC Radio and writes occasionally for a number of publications, including The Independent; Q-News International, Britain’s premier Muslim Magazine; and Seasons, the semiacademic journal of Zaytuna Institute.

Kelana Jaya Police Station

Pada 26 Oktober 2009 (Isnin) jam 11 pagi di Dewan Parlimen, saya terbaca sebuah artikel di Malaysiakini bertarikh 22 Oktober 2009 bertajuk “MIC boss fumes over temple demolition in Shah Alam”.

Saya, Gwo-Burne Loh, ahli parlimen Kelana Jaya mendapati kenyataan yang dikeluarkan oleh Presiden MIC (Kongres India Malaysia), Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu sengaja menimbulkan perbalahan di antara kaum dan membahayakan. Kenyataan Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu dalam semua akhbar harian Tamil yang mengaitkan “Tokong Datuk: dengan kuil Hindu telah memburukkan imej baik ajaran agama Hindu dan mencetuskan gambaran negatif terhadap keseluruhan kebudayaan umat Hindu.

Saya mendapat maklumat bahawa Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu juga membuat kenyataan palsu di dalam laporan Malaysiakini tersebut dengan mengatakan lokasi yang dikatakan di U1 Glenmarie bukanlah sebuah kuil seperti yang didakwa tetapi hanyalah sebuah tempat suci bagi penganut agama Hindu yang dipanggil “Tokong Datuk”. Saya merujuk kepada akhbar The Malaysian Insider pada 23 Oktober 2009 bertajuk “The Demolished Temple That Never Was” oleh Neville Spykerman.

Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu juga mendakwa bahawa pihak Majlis Bandaran Shah Alam (MBSA) melakukan perobohan atas arahan kerajaan Negeri Selangor. Menurut kenyataan media exco Kerajaan Negeri Selangor, Dr Xavier Jayakumar bertarikh 24 Oktober 2009 bertajuk “Datuk Sri Samy Vellu diseru Minta Maaf kepada Umat Hindu Atas Pembohongan Berniat Politik Isu Tokong Datuk”, tindakan perobohan berlaku semata-matanya kerana pembinaan haram struktur baru giat dilakukan di tapak tersebut tanpa sebarang kelulusan daripada pihak MBSA. Sekiranya benar, ini bermakna Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu telah berbohong.

Sekiranya benar laporan Malaysiakini tersebut, bermakna Samy Vellu benar-benar berbohong dan cuba membangkitkan isu perkauman. Beliau sepatutnya disiasat berdasarkan laporan berita yang saya nyatakan.
